Dear councillor,
I would like to draw your attention to the poor level of tree cover in my neighbourhood and your electoral area. I feel there is a need for more extensive tree planting to be undertaken by the council on public streets and green spaces.
This is of particular urgency in light of the ongoing biodiversity and climate emergencies. Tree planting can help mitigate these crises, as well as having countless other benefits including: reduction of noise pollution, air purification, water absorption, shade and improved mental health.
I would request that you raise awareness about these deficits at council meetings. There is an urgent need for councils to invest more money in tree planting and maintenance to make our cities more resilient for current and future generations. Our city has a notable problem when it comes to "green apartheid", access to street trees and mature green spaces is often the preserve of middle class communities. I believe every suburb should be a leafy suburb.
I would specifically request that you ask council management to plant more trees on <Enter your local street/park/area> which have a particular need for improved tree cover.
Regards,
Concerned citizen
