Urban Wilderness Events

7.30pm, 18 August 2024: Kindlestown Woods, Delgany, Co. Wicklow.

The Urban Wilderness team invites you to reconnect with nature in an evening of learning, discussion and tranquillity at Kindlestown Woods, Delgany, Co Wicklow.

We are a group of like-minded individuals with a mission to protect, restore, and expand wild nature, particularly in those areas that are close to or within population centres. We believe that everyone has a right to enjoy nature and that it should be possible to do so close to home.

At 7.30pm on 18th August 2024 we will explore Kindlestown Woods, highlighting selected pockets of woodland that remain in a healthy condition and identifying interesting trees, plants, wildflowers, grasses, insects and bird species (and possibly find evidence of mammals in the area too). We will identify invasive species in the woodlands which, if left unmanaged, will over time dominate the landscape, causing further deterioration to delicate ecosystems. As this is National Heritage Week and the location of a 3,000-year-old Bronze Age hillfort, we will discuss the storied history of this site and the importance of Kindlestown or ‘Cuala-gad’, to the Royal Kingdom of Fera Cuala.

Our choice of date coincides with a full moon so if there are clear skies we will be able to enjoy the magical, panoramic views from the top of the hill under the light of the moon.

The event is free to all. Donations optional.
